Konnect is a cultural awareness app aimed for key stage 2 and 3 students and their teachers, educating students in a more creative and engaging way about topics such as hate crime and cultural awareness. These topics can sometimes be seen as more challenging to talk about but it is vitally important to educate the next generation on these issues and encourage conversations.
After carrying out research within Bristol and the UK I was shocked by how significantly hate crime cases have risen within the UK over recent years. I carried out further research within Bristol to see what resources there were to educate students on these subjects and found very little designed for the audience. Therefore I decided to design Konnect!
Konnect is an application appropriate in content and design style for this age range of students as it has a bright, friendly style but also has a level of sophistication which is important for this age range as they will soon be adolescents.
Konnect’s aim is to bring kids together making them more aware and accepting of different cultures around them and to also celebrate the similarities and differences they have with others.

It is important to discuss topics which may sometimes be challenging to talk about. These are important subjects which should be discussed at a younger age to educate children for the future as this is how we will make a difference in our society in the future. I think through the games and activities on the student app, the lesson plans and activities on the teacher’s part of the app Konnect accomplishes this.
Guide Books
To explain how the app works clearly for both the student and the teacher, I created two separate guide books. When teachers and schools sign up to the Konnect app they will be given a guide book and the students will also receive their own student one as well. These small guide books explain how the app works, the different features and how to use it. It is presented in Konnect’s visual design style to fit the identity of Konnect.
